Going to the airport is never a fun experience unless you can get into the executive lounge. But for us regular folk, it’s hours of tedious lines, grumpy security agents, and painfully uncomfortable waiting areas. Any moments of laughter and respite are immensely welcome, so we’ve compiled a list of the funniest photos captured at airports for your viewing pleasure
Nobody likes being fondled against their will. However, working in airport security sometimes means you have to search every nook and cranny for suspicious items. Though it seems some of the TSA workers actually enjoy this, because hands have been known to linger on ‘sensitive spots’ for more than just a few seconds. What do you get when you mix Top Gun with fur and paws? Find out on the next page.
Cherry Capital Airport
Hitting birds and other animals is always a risk for airplanes, especially when they are in an area with lots of wildlife. To combat this, Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, Michigan employs an unusual tactic: a guard dog. K-9 Piper is in charge of keeping the tarmac clear of birds, squirrels and any other trespassing critters. What would you do if you came home from a trip and your family decided to prank you at the airport?
Funny ‘welcome home’ signs are a popular find on the Internet. And though other people might be more creative, this husband and his two kids might win the prize for most embarrassing sign. We’d like to think this mother just walked on through the arrivals gate, pretending not to know her own family. Next time you’re in Alaska and your flight is delayed, go easy on the airport workers – they might be dealing with some ‘seal-ing issues’.
Some airports are so remote, polar bears have been known to wander onto the tarmac more than once. But last month they got an unheard-of visitor: a seal, lounging about on the runway in Utiqiagvik, Alaska’s northernmost town. Staff had to call Animal Control before being able to resume airport activities. If you’ve ever sat on such a long flight that your bum got sore, you’ll be very jealous of the people on the next page.
Butt Of The Joke
There are things you don’t see every day, like these two women who were spotted at an airport. Perhaps the girls are fans of Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj, and decided to “upgrade” their rear ends to look more like their idols. Whatever the reason, we’re sure there’s a multitude of suitors lining up behind them. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you might want to stop by Denver Airport next May the 4th…
May The Furs Be With You
Denver International Airport
On Star Wars Day this year, Denver Airport went all out in its celebrations – sending off dozens of Stormtroopers and even Darth Vader to greet travelers. But nothing was as endearing as their on-site therapy dog, dressed as a (probably) much sturdier AT-AT. Are you one of those people who like to stretch out or do yoga while they wait for a flight? You might want to hit up these two brothers for some tips.

There are many things you can do to pass the time while waiting for your flight: read a book, play games, try to sleep… But these two brothers raised the bar. Having been in gymnastics their whole lives, they are now highly trained acrobats – and they like to show it off. If you think handstands is the weirdest thing you’ll see at an airport, the next image will surprise you.
Planes Of A Feather
We bet the passengers on this flight never thought they’d be sharing a cabin with 80 falcons. These birds are actually quite popular in the Middle East, and some airlines allow up to 6 falcons to be brought on board. But this Saudi prince pulled some strings and got seats for the whole cauldron. Now, if you could choose a bird to spend a long-haul flight next to you, we’re pretty sure it would be the next one.
Not So Flightless Now
We all know penguins can’t fly, but this little guy might have something to say about that. He and a few other penguins took a trip all the way from England to South Africa, after they were rescued from poachers. They quickly made friends with everyone on the plane, including the pilot. You might never have thought of a career at TSA, but you will after you see this passenger.
Turn Up The A/C
Gentlemen traveling in Rio for the World Cup got a treat when Brazilian model Andressa Urach was seen passing through airport security. She was in town to see her boyfriend Cristiano Ronaldo play, but that’s not what caught people’s attention. It seems she may have forgotten to pack a bra and, well, it’s always pretty chilly in airports. Next time you send off your significant other on a flight, take some advice from this airport in Denmark.
A Thoughtful Airport
Singer Kylie Minogue’s Instagram is full of interesting things she finds while on tour across the globe. She spotted this sign at Aalborg airport in Denmark and peaked everyone’s curiosity. It turns out the sign is placed at the drop-off area of the airport, after staff noticed a lot of people kissed their loved ones goodbye, slowing down traffic. How do you know when a city is really dog-friendly? When you spot this at the airport.
For Globe-Trotting Puppers
Tim Bowden/San Diego International Airport
San Diego Airport became somewhat of an innovator when they created the United States’ first and only “Pet Relief” station. Placed between the men’s and women’s restrooms, this facility comes equipped with a fake hydrant and grass, deodorizers and complimentary poop baggies. Dog lovers now hope this will catch on nationwide. If you’ve ever had your luggage damaged at an airport, this next image will give you PTSD.
While this exists at Sacramento International Airport, there’s no need to worry: it’s an art installation. Called “Samson” and created by artist Brian Goggin, it’s made up of luggage from several different decades. Meant to represent the period in which air travel has been possible, to you it probably just means horror. Next time you’re stopped at a railroad crossing, think of what you’d do if it was something bigger than a train passing in front of you.
Winston Churchill Avenue in Gibraltar is an unusual road: it intersects with the runway of Gibraltar International Airport. There are movable barriers that block the way for motorists when planes are taking off or landing. It is a curious sight, but dangerous when you think about it. Thankfully, the Gibraltar government is building a new highway to eliminate this hazard. Have you ever wondered how much manpower it takes to move a full-sized airplane?
Little Big Lifters
Man Vs. Beast/Fox Television
You might be curious as to why there’s a bunch of little people towing a huge airplane. After all, aren’t there machines for that? Well, this incredible sight was the brainchild of the people behind the TV show Man vs. Beast. Those little people competed against an actual elephant to see who could move that plane the farthest. The elephant won, but we’re still not sure why this happened in the first place.
