This Fitness Model’s Side-By-Side Pics Reveal The Lies Of Social Media

With so many people using deceptive practices to show themselves off in the best light possible, one Instagrammer is exposing the truth about the hundreds of photos that people see online every day.

Fortunately, not everyone looks their best all the time, and fitness model and blogger Chessie King is making sure she spreads the word. She focuses on humor and body positivity to ensure that people don’t believe that they have to live up to some beauty standard that’s not even real.

She started off with an actual book she wrote with her boyfriend Mat called The Couple Bible that, among other things, explains how people manipulate lighting and photo angles to present their body in the best way possible.

With this post, she wrote, “Put your hand up if your thighs touch when you sit down. Keep your hand up if you’ve ever looked at those goddesses on Instagram and wondered why theirs don’t.” The background isn’t the only thing altered here.

Her side-by-side approach to photos remind us that no one has a “picture perfect” body, and we certainly can’t spend our whole lives sucking in our stomachs.

She said that the way to feel good about yourself, whatever your body looks like, is simple: diet and exercise. “I know I train consistently, I know I fuel myself well, I know it’s okay to let my belly out when I’m sitting down next to the pool,” she said.

This pair of photos shows just how far your clothing choice can go in changing your perceived body type. Any body is going to have love handles if the cut is low enough.

She also uses a sense of humor and some goofy faces (alongside her BF) to show that amid all the perfect pictures we see on social media, there are a whole lot of goofy ones that don’t make the cut.

We all experience these less-photogenic moments, but we pretend like they don’t exist, which is silly. Embracing the silly moments and flaws is as fun, if not MORE fun, than celebrating fake perfection.

“3 different bikinis, 3 different weights, 3 different states of mind. Same height (just under 6ft/180cm),” she writes as she shows just how misleading weight can be as a metric of body type or fitness.

She uses her Instagram feed to feel more comfortable with her imperfections, and hopes that other people can reap the same benefits from it that she does.

“All you need is a shower, a bucket full of makeup, a curler and you’re ready to go,” she says as regards dolling herself up to a ridiculous degree. She prefers a more natural look on her face.

She coined the term “life handles” when talking about the stuff that happens to your body when you’re out enjoying life. “The nights out with your friends, the family pack of popcorn you didn’t share, the seconds/thirds/fourths of Sunday roast with your family… the FUN in your life, the memories,” she says.

She’s also not afraid to show the effects of Photoshop on her own photos, lest people start to think that everything they see on Instagram is real.

Amid the positive messages are some tricks to get your body to look its best, so long as you keep a clear head about things. “Body confidence is a feeling, it’s something you slowly find when you start thinking a different way. It’s not just about ‘losing a few pounds’ or ‘dropping a dress size.'”

Mostly, she just wants to love her body so that other people will learn to love their bodies. And if she can provide a few pointers for photos and get a few laughs in the process, what’s the harm in that?
